What is the Diploma of Garden Design ?

The Diploma of Garden Design is a 2 year Full time course developed to meet the needs of people working in or seeking work in the gardening industry. It follows the process of identifying garden characteristics and determining client requirements, designing and constructing garden landscapes or renovating existing gardens.

The full time course aims to provide participants with comprehensive practical, technical and management training to meet the needs of private property owners, nurseries, landscape contractors or other professionals such as architects.

What does the Diploma of Garden Design cover?

Diploma of Garden Design includes:

1. Introduction to botany.
2. Soil and plant nutrition.
3. Australian garden styles and periods.
4. Business management.
5. CAD studio, drafting studio, garden design studio, garden essentials, planting design studio.
6. Prepare Reports.
7. Garden construction detailing and principles.
8. Garden design consultancy practice and contract management.
9. Garden site analysis, surveying and levelling.
10. Professional relations.
11. Landscape contracting.
12. The design brief.
13. Water efficient gardens.

Industry Placement

Completion of the two year diploma plus up to 900 hours of verified industry placement enables graduates to apply for permanent residency. Course coordinators can assist with access to a range of horticultural workplaces.

Commencement Date

The next Diploma of Garden Design course commences in February 2009.

Entry Requirements

Satisfactory completion of year 12 or overseas equivalent. English proficiency demonstrated by IELTS 5.5.
